I am the ggg grandson of James Falconer and Margaret Donnelly.
I am also trying to find James coming to Australia. I have scoured the assisted and unassisted passenger records and there are 1 or 2 possibilities among the unassisted passengers but nothing conclusive. I know that Margaret came from Tipperary in Ireland and arrived in Sydney on the "John Knox" on 29 April 1850.
I am interested in how you established the connection to James' parents William Falconer and Catherine Kennedy. I have information that suggests that he may have been born on 23 October 1825 to William Falconer and Georgina Gilmore in Inveresk Midlothian (Edinburgh) Scotland.
The reasons I came to this conclusion are that James' and Margaret's second daughter was named Georgina (my gg grandmother) which may suggest she was named after her grandmother. Georgina's birth certificate dated 16 August 1858 states that James was 32 years old and a shipwright from Scotland. This tallies with him being born in October 1825.
The certificate of James' death in Balmain on 26 January 1861 says that he was 33 years old (2 years out from the 1825 birth date and 3 years out from the 1831 birth date). The informant of the death was not Margaret but William Moss, a friend, so he may not have known exactly how old James was. His death certificate also says he was 27 when he was married on 11 April 1853, which also tallies with him being born in 1825.
I look forward to hearing more from you.
