Falconer Family Genealogy Forum
Dear Mr. Gifford,
Thank you for your response to my message. I certainly didn't expect the author of "Falconer's" to come to my aid. I was drawn to the Falconer surname thru a sketch reference to my ggrandfather, James R. Smedley that I found in VolII of H.H. Hardesty's "Presidents, Soldiers, Statesmen 1776-1889." "James R. Smedley was born in Lewis county, KY, May 8th 1830; his parents George J. and Anna (Faulkner)Smedley are deceased;...united in marriage in Lewis Co., KY Mar. 25th, 1856 to Dorcas McDaniel, a native Kentuckian, b. Dec. 10, 1836, daughter of John B. McDaniel(1803-18620 and Oletha (Plummer) McDaniel(1808-1894)." They had 9 children, the 7th of which was my grandfather George Albert Smedley(1870-1943). His son Melvin Wells Smedley (1904-1960) was my father.
I have found the census records of George J. Smedley in 1820 and 1840 Ohio, as well as a record of his service in the War of 1812, as a Private in Capt. Shepard's Company, Ohio Militia. Beyond that I come up empty. Thanks for your interest. I will attempt to contact a cousin from the Cyrus FAlconer family you mention...maybe they can give me a leg up in my research. Thanks again for the help. By the way is your interest academic or are you also a cousin?
