Thanks, Paul, for your reply to my enquiry. The "Lowthorpe" connection is news to me. I suspected there was a Norman connection.
My father, his uncle, and my great grandfather were all "Gilberts". Is this name unusually common among Falconers?
I may check out your book. I expect it saves some people a lot of work.
