Totally Confused

My Grandfather Lincoln Fairley did research on the family and concluded our name was a typical variation and that we were Irish. Certainly enough Fairley's left Ireland to the New World and many other ports. I played with Ancestry.com. They have a Coat of Arms for Fairley and also said we were Irish. I just looked at their page and now they say we were English and display the same Coat of Arms. Obviously I am aware there is a town and castle that bears our name in Scotland and in an area associated with the Rose Clan. In fact I recently heard the ruined castle had been purchased and is being fixed up. However, when I take a close look at Scottish ancestry I keep finding the Clan Ross as being associated with the Fairley's (and variations). Does anyone out there think they know the facts? Drop me a line at curufinwe@mac.com my name is Eliot Tynes Patrick Fairley. I am cheerful, very educated and happy to hear from just about anybody on this subject.
