I would appreciate any knowledge anyone has of the following 'Fairley' household: 1891 census: 19 Chapel Lane, Westgate, Newcastle on Tyne Henry Fairley, Head, 38, Machine man, Born, Gateshead. Mary Fairley, Wife, 29, Scotland. Elizabeth Fairley,Daughter, 12, Newcastle on Tyne Alexander Fairley, Son, 6, Newcastle on Tyne Mary Ann Davis, 'DAUGHTER' 36, widow,Fruiterer, Cumberland, John Henry Davis, NEPHEW, 11, scholar, Newcastle on Tyne William Davis, NEPHEW, 8, scholar, Newcastle on Tyne Sarah Armstrong, visitor, 27, single, Newcastle on Tyne Elizabeth Law, visitor, 26, single, Newcastle on Tyne My interest is in the Davis family. It is possible that the above William Davis is my grandfather (although according to his marriage certificate he should have been around 12 year old in 1891...perhaps the ages of the brothers, John Henry and William have been swapped in a census error.) It seems likely that Mary Ann Davis is the widowed mother of William and John Henry....but at 36 she can't be a daughter to Henry Fairley (38)...also her birth in Cumberland is inconsistent with the others in the household. So my basic questions for for anyone who may have studied this household are: What was the relationship between Mary Ann Davis and Henry Fairley? Have the ages of Mary Ann's children been swapped? Is Mary Ann the mother of the Davis children? If Mary Ann was a Fairley at birth...what caused her to be born in Cumberland (Henry Fairley was born in Gateshead just across the river from Newcastle.) Sorry if this all a little confusing..any help would be gratefully received. Regards, Phil D Notify Administrator about this message?
