In My search for the family of Emma Clyde Faires, the most likely candidate I have found to date is Andrew J. Faires listed in the 1880 Tate County, MS census, with wife Susan and 7 children, none of whom is named Melinda. However, their oldest child, daughter Paralee, was 20 years old in 1880. It is quite possible that Melinda may have been an older child who married the year before.
I have been searching for A. J. Faires in the 1870 census, but have not had any luck yet. The 1880 census indicates that all the children were born in MS, so he must have lived somewhere in MS in 1870. If, when I find the 1870 census listing for Andrew, and I find that there was a daughter named Melinda, I will let you know.
