I think we're only partly in agreement about Leonard WARING. Definitely brought up as the son of Paul FAIRCLOUGH, but I don't think official records exist to prove that he was his biological rather than adopted son. I'd be happy to stand corrected if anyone knows otherwise.
Leonard WARING was born in Chorley, Lancashire in 1852 and christened at St George's that year. He is shown as the son of Mary WARING, with no mention of his father. I don't suppose his birth certificate would add anything to that record. (I haven't spotted yet where Paul FAIRCLOUGH was living in 1851. Chorley?) Paul FAIRCLOUGH seems to have married Mary three years later, in Manchester, possibly at the Cathedral. (Has anyone got the marriage certificate to prove this, add more details?) Their first legitimate child seems to have been Sarah, born in Anderton c1856.
Paul may have been Leonard's biological father, but I'd need to see more evidence (e.g. family photograph showing strong family likeness) before I'd say so with certainty. It is only academic as far as my research goes and hope it doesn't matter to anyone else.
