I've just spotted another Fairclough in the 1871 census that may be worth checking - Edward Fairclough, born Chorley in 1803, living in Limbrick, Heath Charnock, a Quarry Man. Wife Ann, born Thornton 1799.
My starting point for the family tree of Paul Fairclough and Esther Longworth is their marriage in Standish in 1836. Esther seems to have been born in Horwich around 1817, but I don't have any more information about her family background.
I found Paul and Esther living in Adlington in the 1841 census, and at Hole House Brow in Heath Charnock in 1851 and 1861. In 1871 they were living on Chorley and Bolton Road, Heath Charnock. Paul died between 1871 and 1881. In 1881 Esther was a widow, living at Chorley Road, Heath Charnock. In 1891 she was at 3 Anderton Street, Adlington. By 1901 she was back to Heath Charnock, living at 14 Chorley Road, aged 84 years.
I'll continue in a follow-up message.
