It isn't likely that Kinchen Faircloth, who was only 15 years older than Dempsey, would have raised someone else's half-breed. That just wasn't done in those days. Just more of the "old wive's tales" by "injun wannabees". All little boys (including myself) played cowboys and injuns when we were little. And we loved to listen to those tales told by our grandparents about our ancestors being "an Irishman and a Cherokee Indian princess". It was ALWAYS a "princess". No matter that they did not have royalty nor "princesses". It just made the stories better.
