That's the problem--all family sources (among them, Tom's granddaughter, the family historian) and at least one census list him as TOM WATSON FAIRCLOTH, while another census that seems obviously the same fellow lists him as WILLIAM T. FAIRCLOTH. Why the switch? When the switch? IS it a switch, or are two different men being confused? Can anybody give me sources to check? Books, census info, people? Thanks.
