You are mixing up two different kinfolk here. JOHN ALLEN and ALLEN are not the same person.
In fact, JOHN ALLEN had a son named ALLEN (b. 1840 in Henry County, Alabama). There have been several other Allen's--the first one born in 1770 and still in use today.
