The 1790 census of North Carolina listed the folks by court districts. The New Bern District included Greene County, where this WILLIAM FAIRCLOTH Junior lived. I have found no records to tell us when he was born and died. But I list him as born about 1740 in Virginia, son of WILLIAM Senior. William Jr. served as a lieutenant in the North Carolina Militia during the Revolutionary War. After the war, he became an agent for the new State government to pay veterans for their service. William became involved in a fraud when he began writing out vouchers to fictitious men and stealing the money for himself. He was tried and sentenced to jail at Fayetteville. All of his children later moved to Georgia; they include all the family from Laurens and Wilcox Counties.
