Hey Dawn,
I have Martha Williams as Smith's first wife, married on 13 May 1851. I have four children for Smith and Martha:
William H., Archibald, Roseanna and Adgeline (Evangeline) Faircloth born January 1858.
I have Smith's second wife as Nancy Carter, married 31 Jan 1866. The six children I have listed for Smith and Nancy are:
Louisa, Lucian F., Nathaniel, Lucinda, Lallister and Mariah.
I show Nancy's children by her first marriage were :
Lallister Carter, Lucinda Carter, Maria Carter and Adelina Carter. (Please note the children's names I have for Smith and Nancy's marriage above) "corn fusing isn't it?"
My big question is " is Adgeline - Smithwich (Smith) F. Faircloth's daughter or one of Nancy Carter's daughter by her first marriage.
See the following note from Robert Earl Woodham:
start of his note ****
The family legend told to me is that EVANGELINE ("Adgeline"), LUCINDA, MARIA and ADELINE were the children of Mrs. Nancy Carter and her first husband who was killed in the War for Southern Independence. After the war, the widowed Nancy then married SMITHWICK F. ("Smith") Faircloth and they had at least three children together: LOUISA, LUCIAN and NATHANIEL. Smith raised the orphans and they took his name (I don't think there was any formal adoption as we know it today).
Smithwick (Smith) F. Faircloth and Nancy Carter only had 3 surviving children out of the six born to them.
end of his note ****
Dawn, I probably received this Robert Earl Woodham's note more than twenty years ago.
I hope this helps you in your search. Please let me know what you figure out on this mess. I would like to straighten my Faircloth data base out on this generation of Faircloths also.
Your Cuz,
Andrew Dennis Faircloth
