I have noticed some controversy about the parentage of Dempsey Faircloth, Sr.; i.e., being the son of Matthew and Clarissa Faircloth or some unknown Native American parentage. Does anyone know his true birthdate? I have seen it as 3/1824 and 3/1825. Since his parents were married in 11/1823, this leaves some question, especially since his sister is listed as being born in 6/1825. They couldn't have been born only 3 months apart. This is of some interest to me since he was my gggrandfather. Incidentally, I too heard the story of him supposedly being the son of a Dickerson and an Indian woman. This story apparently was passed down through my part of the family too.
