James,
I now believe that the Lantonhall Sassine Sanna refers to is "my" James FAIRBAIRN and Elizabeth LAIDLAW, not your James FAIRBAIRN and Elizabeth LAIDLAW.

There are two James F/Elizabeth LAIDLAW marriages, yours in 1849 Jedburgh, mine 1844 Melrose and Selkirk.
It was this finding this latter on the same page as that for James' daughter Alison to William SCOTT that gave me the final lead on what had happened to James son of my Archibald and Alison (CROSSER) after the 1841 census in Selkirk.
Which neatly fitted in with family information recently uncovered that said that James (marr. Joan FORSYTH) had remarried.
