I've dug a bit deeper and this is how I think the families probably link up:

Very interested in hearing from anyone with an interest in the FAIRBAIRN families of Melrose and St Boswells, Roxburghshire, Scotland.
Particularly that of John ffairbairn and Bessie fflint, whose son Robert was baptised Melrose, Jan 1729.
Robert is likely to be the Robert who married Agnes LANDRETH 1757, and father of the Archibald who married Mary GRIERSON
forebear of the person with the DNA match with one of the descendants of "my" Archibald (marr. Alison CROSSER) of Swinton then Morebattle.

Archibald and Mary's children were baptised in Bowden, St Boswells and Southdean.
