Dear Elva, Hello cuz!
My name is Doris Carter, daughter of Pauline Young, daughter of Mattie Fain Young, daughter of Emily Prewitt Fain and James Fain, James being the son of Greenberry and Susan Russel Fain!I suppose we can be grateful for the unusual Greenberry name which I understand he hated always calling himself G.B.My information comes from family lore (which is often askew).I understand Greenbery was the son of Judith Chappel (sometimes listed as Greathouse)Fain and William Fain.William was the only child of John and Elizabeth (I have Martin - somewhere else it is listed as Norman)Fain. My information says "two brothers, Nicholas and John Fain immigrated to American sometime in 1760 or 1770.They settled first in southcentral Virginia/North Carolina (state lines were somewhat iffy at the time. There are records of them in Virginia archives.I believe Nicholas descendents show up in or around Tennessee while John's descendents drifted south to Georgia's DeKalb County(Greenberry is in the records in DeKalb County) and sometime around the Civil War James and some siblings relocated to Texas in or around Denton.Somewhere I have a 1880 census record showing Susan Russel Fain living with James and Emily and their 10 living children!!! the youngest of which was my grandmother Mattie!.I hope you choose to get in touch. God Bless!
I am peagreen with envy of your family bible.Your distant cousin, Doris
