PVT. NICHOLAS FAIN I MEMORIAL
MEMORIAL AT KNOB CREEK, TENNESSEE, FOR PVT. NICHOLAS FAIN I
.
American Revolution soldier Pvt. Nicholas FAIN I was born in Ireland about 1730. He immigrated to America and settled in Pennsylvania about 1749; to the southwest part of present Virginia about 1771; to Knob Creek, upstream of the Watauga River, Washington County, North Carolina (now Tennessee) about 1778.
.
Pvt. Nicholas FAIN I died about 1789, near Jonesborough, Washington County, North Carolina (now Tennessee). His burial site is unknown.
.
Pvt. Nicholas FAIN fought in the Battle at King’s Mountain, South Carolina, in October 1780, along with three of his sons (Pvt. Samuel, Capt. John, and Pvt. Ebenezer FAIN). Samuel and John FAIN fought Shawnee Indians in 1774 Battle of Point Pleasant.
.
Members of the Pvt. Ebenezer Fain Memorial Group began contributing in May 2008 to the “Pvt. Nicholas Fain Memorial Fund,” for the purpose of building a long-overdue memorial for Nicholas Fain and his sons who served in the American Revolution.
.
The memorial will be placed in the Reed Cemetery, Knob Creek Community, Johnson City, Washington County, Tennessee. A nice memorial marker will be erected for Pvt. Nicholas Fain. Dedication of the memorial will be in the spring of 2009.
.
Depending on sufficient contributions to the Pvt. Nicholas Fain Memorial Fund:
.
1. A 20-ft. flagpole will be placed in the Pvt. Nicholas Fain Memorial plot.
.
2. If there are no known-or-existing grave markers or memorial markers for Nicholas Fain’s sons Pvt. Samuel FAIN and Capt. John FAIN, then a small memorial marker for each will be placed alongside their father’s memorial marker (proof of existing markers for Samuel and/or John would be appreciated).
.
