HiBrenda,
If you will please read my original message to the forum, I was asking those on the forum the question - WHICH BALAAM was the son of the REV. BALAAM EZELL, SR.?
Thank you for taking the time to give your EZELL ancestry and your opinion on the BALAAM EZELL who married KEZIAH TARKINGTON, who you have from their marriage bond as having married JULY 7, 1805, in TN and not VA.I also noticed from the Tarkington forum and various Tarkington documents on webpages, they have that Keziah Tarkington was born 1775 in NC.The age of Keziah is very early when compared to the marriage and birthdate of the wife of Balaam Ezell, Jr., see below.
My question and concerns are that Rev. Balaam Ezell,Sr. was living in Mecklenburg County, Virginia during that time.He performed marriages in that county as seen from the original microfilm (which I researched at the GA Archives in Atlanta).
However, there is strong evidence which would highly suggest, that REV. BALAAM EZELL, SR. was the father of BALAAM EZELL, shown as "JR" on his marriage bond, as evidenced by the following documentation out of MECKLENBURG COUNTY, VA.
BALAAM EZELL, JR. marriage bond, dated, NOVEMBER 14, 1808, between he and SALLY CHILDERS (aka Childress), **SURETY was BALAAM EZELL, SR. - Consent: THOMAS HAMBLIN, guardian for SALLY [Childress] stating she was underage.
**SURETY - As you can see, one BALAAM EZELL is JR. the other BALAAM EZELL who was Surety Is SR. It was common place for a father to be Surety for his son, as was the case here, BOTH having the same exact name with JR. and SR.Thomas Hamblin was the step-father of BALAAM JR.'s wife, SALLY CHILDRESS, daughter of BENEDICT (Richard) and JANE (Jean) CHILDRESS, who married as a widow, THOMAS HAMBLIN November 10, 1803 Mecklenburg Co, VA, with BALAAM EZELL as SEC., giving further evidence that Rev. Balaam Ezell, SR. was part of this family, as he was.
Rev. Balaam Ezell, SR. was married to Thomas Hamblin's daughter (second wife) ELIZABETH HAMBLIN, widow of John Mayes.Rev. Ezell's other son, BERRYMAN EZELL had married Thomas Hamblin's other daughter, PHEBE HAMBLIN (MB) August 8, 1803, with Consent of her father, THOMAS HAMBLIN.
The Rev. Balaam Ezell, Sr. was already linked to Thomas Hamblin's family prior to the marriages of his son and even homself to Hamblin's daughters.Rev. Ezell was first married (as you stated) to LYDIA SEAT while Thomas Hamblin was married to ELIZABETH SEAT.I descend from Thomas Hamblin and his first wife, I also descend from Rev. Ezell and his second wife, Elizabeth Hamblin (widow Mayes) and their daughter Zelphia Ezell whose marriage connects to the Hamblin family again through JANE CHILDRESS HAMBLIN, whose son, WILLIAM CHILDRESS had a son named THOMAS CHILDRESS and he married ZELPHIA EZELL 1842 Caldwell CO, KY.
Rev. Balaam Ezell, Sr. left Mecklenburg Co, VA for KY with his sons Balaam Ezell, Jr. and his wife, Sally Childress Ezell, along with Berryman and his family. The Ezells were in KY by 1820 as I found them on the KY Census Records. My Childress family migrated after JANE CHILDRESS HAMBLIN passed away which was between 1831 and 1839, as the Childress family were in Caldwell CO, KY in the 1840 original census.
Rev. Balaam Ezell, Sr. plus the Childress's were in the WILL of Thomas Hamblin, dated 1810/11 Mecklenburg CO, VA.The will is online (Mecklenburg CO, VA webpage) -
