Hi Shirley and Deborah,
Sarah, "Sally" was born a "CHILDESS" - Daughter of Benedict also called "Richard" Childress and Jane/Jean - At this point, her surname has not been found - Family tradition persisted that she was born a "Burton", however not much proof has been found - Jane was married to Benedict/Richard Childress, grandson of Jeremiah Childress Sr of Lunenburg and Charlotte Counties in VA - Jeremiah Sr left a 1790 will in Charlotte Co naming his sons and daughters - It is my opinion that he could have had another son who died prior to his writing this will - (I have a copy of the original will for Jeremiah Sr)
Jane/Jean is listed in her 2nd husband's Will (Thomas Hamblin) whose daughter was Elizabeth HAMBLIN, widow of John MAYES, she married Rev Balaam Ezell Sr 2nd and had my ancestor, Zelphia Ezell who married 1842 Caldwell Co, KY to Thomas CHILDRESS, son of William Childress, son of Benedict/Richard Childress and JANE -
Sally Childress was the sister to my ancestor, William Childress b1785 VA - d1865 Caldwell CO, KY - William married Nancy Wilkerson - A possible other marriage has been a tradition, although not proven - Both Sally and William were children of Jane/Jean CHILDRESS 2nd wife of Thomas Hamblin and Elizabeth Seat - both my ancestors as well -
Thanks for your previous message to me -
