Perhaps even is there is no Ezell listed as one of the twelve officers, there was an Ezell on board the ship and did, indeed, go with Lafayette to America.There were seamen and a captain and first mate to crew the ship.I genererally think there was movement of European people during the war years 1400 to 1770.Therefore, the Ezells were moving around Europe, the borders were moving, too. Then if there is such a strong oral history among the different families of Ezell coming with Lafayette perhaps there is some truth.However,I don't think the Ezell was an officer in the military. Perhaps a crewman.
Theorizing is important and situating the event in terms of history is important.Then of course basic research is the best fun.
