Thankyou for the info. I have been trying to prove (and correct) entries on my family tree (PIFFARD FAMILY) which was drawn up about 40 odd years ago in London by a geat aunt of mine. She listed one of my ancestors as Miss Eyre of Herts (daughter of General Eyre) who married into the Piffard family. I have recently found out from a reliable source - Extensive research done in the USA and published on the net about the Piffard line that the only Piffard/Eyre marriage was between David Piffard and Sarah Eyre b. 1764 in Bergholt Suffolk d. 1815. Her father was Joseph Eyre 1711-1789 (died in Bergholt) and her mother was Priscilla Catelow. Joseph's father was also Joseph but that is as much as the USA researcher has uncovered. He came to a dead-end when trying to go back further. Do any of your ancestors tie in with these names? I know that my family eventually came to live in and around the London area. The Piffard desccendants of Sarah Eyre and David Piffard spent much time in Bengal and Calcutta and Charles Piffard (Sarah's grandson) married Emily Hume. Therefore, I am also researching the Hume family line as well. It has been fascinating.
Thanks again for your info, I'll keep an eye out for Derbyshire links.
Regards
Sandra
