As we look at the preference to the way we choose to be called I look at my direct line history. My research indicates that one of the sons of my great-great grandfather chose to use ire the rest of our rather large extended family maintains the tradition of "air". I have always found it interesting that our name gets butchered by experts, but I have never found anyone, who when asked the name of Charlotte Bronte's novel, ever stated "Jane 'ire'".
