I have seen Highlow Hall on the Google site. Have you any dates for the marriage of Elizabeth Hudleston and Robert Eyre?
I am particularly interested in Elizabeth being the daughter of William Hudleston, as there does not appear (from Hudleston research) to have been a Nicholas Hudleston of Sawston, Cambs.at that early .date The Hudleston connection began much later in c. 1500 with the inheritance of Isabel Neville, dau. of Marquess Montague, brother of Warwick the "Kingmaker"who marr. William Hudleston of Hutton John, a younger son of Sir John Hudleston of Millom.
It is another William Hudleston, possible father of Elizabeth who marr. Robert Eyre, who is of particular interest to me as he appears c.1400 and up till 1420/2 as "bailiff of Alanston" (still undiscovered,) and marr. to Elizabeth Piel (monuments in Irthlingborough church, Northants, now lost)They had a son Henry,(born c. 1422) who was Sheriff of Northants, who left a daughter and as far as I can see no others. But amongst the heraldrey at Hutton John is mention of "Piel" a quartering, and a note by my grandfather, Ferdinand "an heiress and an ancestress of ours".
I have no mention of a Nicholas Hudleston of Sawston, and can only suppose that the IGI site is , as so often, faulty.
Any dates and information would be most welcome...though how I can connect them to my branch of Hudlestons of Millom still needs unravelling! (but am slowly getting there!)
(It is interesting that latterly the Huddlestons of Sawston became "Eyre-Huddlestons) but that branch was junior to the Millom branch of Cumberland( died out c.1770) whereas the Hutton John branch , also Cumberland,(mine) still carries on.
Shall definitely visit Hathersage and Highlow when the seasons improve in the New Year, and look up the Blackwell site on Genuki.
Meanwhile, any further information you can provide re. the early Eyres of Highlow and Padley, would be very welcome
