Gervaise Eyre d 1645 England

Gervaise was a royalist cavalry officer during the English civil war. There is a family story that he died on May 5,1645 while governor of Newark Castle. My research leads me to doubt that this could have been the castle at Newark in Nottinghamshire though it might have been at another location by that name near the Scottish border. He had a son, a grand son and a great grandson all named Gearge Eyre. The last mentioned was born in 1700 at Worksop in Nottinghamshire and came to America in 1727 where he married in Burlington NJ and lived there till his death in 1761. He had many decendents in the Philadelphia area.
I am interested to know anything about the parents of Gervaise and to have a verification of his war record.
