My G-G-G-Grandfather was John Lomax (1812/1817-1876) who was supposedly from Lancashire,England. He married RoseAnne Ferguson, and largely resided in Guernsey and
Belmont counties, Ohio. Family lore states that he deserted the British army, changing
his last name from EXLEY/ECKLEY to LoMax.

We don't know how true this is, but census records do show he was from England, and he
fails to show up in any records prior to his marraige in 1841 Guernsey Co. He is no relation to any surrounding Lomax families of the times.

Under the name of Exley/Eckley, he may have been a soldier stationed in Canada, maybe even connected to the Mackenzie rebellion in that country. Does anyone know who this man might actually be?
