Hi William, Frederick R (Bob) Exell is or was my cousin, I don't know if he is still alive. he was born in 1923.
I was a lot younger than him as I was born in 1945.
He was a well established illustrator when I was a lad in the 1950's. I remember that he used to do wonderful illustrations for the Radio Times during those years.
I have in my possession a first edition of a shorter classic Moby Dick which he illustrated. It was given to me by his father for my 13th birthday.
Other information I can give you is that he used to live in Shirley, Croydon as a boy with his brother Peter, also an artist. Their father, my uncle Fred, was a detective inspector in the flying squad at the time of 'Fabian of the Yard'.
I hope you find this of interest.
Incidentally I don't think either boy married.
