The weather is so changeable, its hardly suitable to try any more to state
facts concerning it.
We are informed that the "Advance" has changed hands. Wherry Bros having
sold out to Chas. WICKES.
The shipment of ice was suspended last week as the weather was so warm the
ice had become soft and unfit for shipment. If the cold of this morning
continues, the business will begin again soon. Somewhere near a thousand tons have
been or is to be shipped from Davis City.
Two children of Mr. CUMMING's living southeast of town, have died from
diphtheria within the past week. Another child is also quite ill.
Mrs. MOORE in the southern part of town was buried the latter part of the
week before last, she leaves two small children.
Carrie WARNER of Leon was in the city the fore part of last week trying to
get up a class in music.
Joe WARNER has bought of his brother the property formerly owned by Mr.
MCKAY, he takes possession and goes to housekeeping soon.
Edith EWING returned from a visit to Leon Sunday before last.
One of the most enjoyable events of the season was the birthday party given
at S. R. FRAZIER's last Wednesday eve in honor of his son Clarence's
twenty-second birthday. Invitations were issued by Mrs. S. R. and O. L. FRAZIER, and
about twenty five were present, games of various kinds were played and
everything that could make an evening enjoyable was provided. Last, but far from
least, an excellent supper was partaken of and ample justice was done Mrs.
FRAZIER's excellent cookery. On the whole the occasion was one long to be remembered
by those present.
Nora BIGGS of Leon attended the party at S. R. FRAZIER's last Wednesday eve.
Will MCLAUGHLIN of Ridgeway, Mo., was in the city over Sunday.
Greta BARR of Spring Valley is visiting her relatives in the city at present.
Vadus BARKELY and sister Nellie arrived from St. Joseph, Mo., last Saturday.
Nellie went to Leon Sunday.
Clyde BOWMAN of Leon attended the dance here last Friday evening.
Allen HINES of Humeston was the guest of Miss Lizzie FRANKLIN the latter part
of last week.
Grandma COLWELL is on the sick list.
Several went to the baptism yesterday south of here where Elder ELVIN of
Lamoni has been conducting a series of meeting, have not learned particulars.
Prof. DARRAH of Leon was visiting old friends here last Saturday and Sunday.
