Not related to this man; just entering information from a booklet I have on Washington Co., PA. by Patrick Connors. "Meadow Lands was a mining town situated on the Chartiers railway and the Wasington & Canbonsburg trolley line about four and a half miles from Washington. The name of the town was originally Eqing Station, from the name of the owner of the tract, but the railroad company later changed it to Meadow Lands. John H. Ewing purchased the land at a sheriff's sale from Sheriff John Hoge in 1826. In 1876 John H. Ewing's house, later owned by John Murphy, was the only dwelling at this point. Later, in 1886, the Southwest Pennsylvania purchased land from Mr. Ewing and built Ewing Pump Station and erected oil tanks. The village grew from that time." .....In 1826 Major John H. Ewing purchased land at Meadow Lands and erected a largte mansion house in which he resided for many years. This is one of the few old-time farm houses that is in an excellent state of preservation, and still retains its original appearance. (the house is pictured). Mr. Ewing was one of the most prominent men of his day and one of the promoters of the Chartiers Valley Railroad, the second railroad project in the United States...The first passenger ticket for the Chartier Valley Railroad was sold by John Ewing of Meadow Lands."
