Let me know if this was any help to you and if I can share anymore information. My husband is a decendant from Robert Cunningham Daniel and is the grandson of Rollin Augustus Daniel. I have a particular interest in searching maiden name lines as these tend to be lost in time. Thank goodness some children carry these surnames in their given names!

Karen,
I joined research with Carlton M. Dillard in 1988 when he was researching for his book,
Back to Old Virginia with Dillard, Daniel and Kin. I have a copy of his book which is out of print and have permission from him to give copies of information to other Daniel, Dillard or Kin researchers. I can send you the section on our discovery of Jane Ewing if you like or any other information. Your research is very good but a few things in our family of Rollin Augustus Daniel need correcting. You can email me:[email protected] if you like.
Carlton documented how the seach for the Ewing name began. Mr. Ray discovered the marriage record for Mary Daniel (Cunningham Daniel's aunt) to Samuel Ewing in Prince Edward County, Va. on 2 January, 1773. But the Ewing connection in this Daniel family was much closer than suspected.
Carlton writes, "Samuel Ewing Daniel's mother was not Jane Coffee, as Daniel family histories have reported for years. She was Jane Ewing, the daughter of Samuel and Mary (Daniel) Ewing. Cunningham's father, James Daniel, was a brother of Mary (Danie) Ewing, the mother of Jane (Ewing) Daniel."
Carlton documents his contact with me in which I mentioned that I had found, in an old issue of a family newsletter, that was disbanded, The Daniel Discoverer and Documenter, issue of Sept. 1978. It was an article by David M. Pickens. We searched for and found David Pickens who confirmed that Maury County, Tenn. Chancery Court Records dealing with the administration of the estate of Mary (Daniel) Ewing and her husband Samuel Ewing in 1834 do, indeed make it clear that their daughter, Jane Ewing, was married to Cunningham Daniel of Wilkes Co., GA.
Carlton writes " Eight years after Cunningham Daniel's death, Jane made her will in Wilkes County, GA., signing the document on 26 May, 1847 as JANE E. DANIEL. Almost a century and a half later, her great grandchildren have discovered proof that the "E" stood for Ewing."
Samuel Ewing Daniel's mother was not Jane Coffee. She was Jane Ewing, the daughter of Samuel Ewing and Mary (Daniel) Ewing. Cunningham's father, James Daniel, was a brother of Mary (Daniel) Ewing, the mother of Jane (Ewing) Daniel.
I may have copies of the actual court records and can search for them and send them to you if you like. Let me know if this was of help to you and if I can provide anything further.

5.Mary Daniel born about 1813 married Edmond Butler
*Nancy Dillard, email [email protected] shows her name as Jane Ewing, daughter of Samuel Ewing and Mary Daniel but no source document is shown.Since the middle name of Ewing was given to at least one of their children, it is quite possible.Mary Daniel was the sister of James Daniel who married Elizabeth Cunningham and the aunt of Cunningham Daniel so they would have been first cousins if the name is correct.Or Cunningham Daniel may have married twice. There is a LDS Family Group 188K-VLX that shows Cunningham "Game" Daniel married Jane Coffee about 1790 in Wilkes County, GA; and Nancy Dillard shows he married Jane Ewing about 1800, Clarke County, GA.

GEORGE WYTHE EWING AND WILLIAM K. KERCHEVAL, editors and proprietors of Marshall Gazette, were born and reared in this county, and while growing up, received their education in the common schools. The former (Mr. Ewing) took quite an extensive course under William Stoddert, D.D., embracing nearly the entire course of the University of Virginia. After completing his school days, he taught mathematics and language in Lewisburg Institute for two terms, and the same at Farmington Academy and some minor schools.Mr. Kercheval finished his education at Fayetteville, Tenn.In 1871 the Marshall Gazette was established, and, two years later, Mr. Ewing and two partners purchased the paper and office, and soon after Mr. Kercheval joined him; thus Mr. Ewing and he became sole proprietors, going in debt for the greater portion of it.Both were wholly unacquainted with the business, but notwithstanding they have made it a success and their crisp, newsy, eight-column paper has a circulation of about 1,100.George Wythe Ewing is a son of James S. Ewing, who was born July 5, 1824, in Maury County, and at the age of twenty began his career as a farmer, following that occupation for a period of fourteen years. In 1845 he wedded Eliza J. Rivens, by whom he had two children, only one of whom (our subject) is living. In 1859 the father came to Lewisburg and engaged in merchandising, following that business almost ever since. Both he and wife are worthy members of the Presbyterian Church, of which he has been an elder for about thirty-two years. For some time during the war he served as conscript officer in the Confederacy. He served as trustee of this county, and also as magistrate. He is a Democrat in politics and the son of William D. and Rebecca (Ewing) Ewing, the former born in 1786, and died in 1872, and
the latter born in 1791 and died in 1847.
