Robert Y. Ewers and my 2G grandfather, William I. Ewers were sons of Joseph Ewers of Amherst County by his first wife Francis R. Allcock.Joseph died withot a will in 1874 and his estate ended up in chancery court. The records of those proceedings are the only source that I have found which identifies the children that he left by his two wives, Francis Allcock and Polly Hudson.Joseph owned several tracts of land on Harris Creek near McIvors which is present day Monroe, Va.
Joseph Ewers' parents were John Ewers and Betsy Moore. The names of his parents are not known but Betsy was a daughter of William Moore of Albemarle and possibly Susannah Martin.John Ewers left a will in Amherst County, early 1830's, which I found to be unusual in that he owned slaves but there is no mention of his owning land.Message No. 166 on this forum names his children.
Francis R. Allcock was a daughter of William Allcock, wife not known, and grand daughter of Richard Allcock.Richard Allcock seems to have come to Amherst from Caroline Co. and was involved in many land transactions.
