The Scottish Ewarts are from most likely the borders. Where clans did infact exist, infact clans existed throughout Scotland, but in the lowlands the people became somewhat "anglicised" and the clan system pretty much died. The borders had something like clans, as well, although not refered to as such. Check out the Johnstones .
