R.G. Ewart mentions that his grandfather wore the Royal Stewart tartan. That was because he was a member of the Black Watch Regiment in Canada. The Black Watch website states: "As members of a Royal Regiment, its pipers wear the Royal Stewart tartan, which is the tartan of the current monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, as an ongoing symbol of loyalty to Queen and country." Therefore, it wasn't because he was a Ewart that he wore the Royal Stewart tartan, it was because he was a piper in the Black Watch. Incidentally, we both share the same grandfather.
