Dear Janet, this sounds hopeful.(Please understand that I am am dabbler and not yet a researcher.) I gather that there are two streams of Ewarts in Victoria. My lot, whose patriarchs are the Robert Bruces, and the Yarra Valley Ewarts.

The YV Ewarts appear to spring from a horse trainer who was brought to Australia, either during or a little before the gold rush. There is a Ewart Street in Caulfield, near the race course. Around the Warburton area there are Ewart pioneers who include a road engineer (David, I think), a Post Master, a publican and a saw miller. A later Ewart was a Shire Councillor. In that part of the world there is a Ewart Rock and a Ewart Park.

My Ewarts ended up in central Victoria. Old RB, my GGPa, his wife Hanna and their 10 surving kids had their family home in Tungamah. (I visited the place when I was very young. I am now 55. I remember Hanna as a tiny and physicaly frail but still tremendously powerful figure.) My GPa, Hayden, who was a Light Horseman and a Gallipoli veteran, and his wife "Pops" (really Victoria) had a home in Tallangatta. My parents met when they both attended High School in Wangarrata. Others lived on farms and in towns spread between Shepparton, Beechworth and Wodonga.

I would love to learn more about your Peebleshire Robert.

Thank you!
