If you check the IGI and other sources, you will see that Ewart is to Scotland like Smith is to America. While I only have my husband's line to England, they are of Scots origin. His ancestor wore the tartan of a clan Stewart but I have yet to figure out which one. The Ewart name is very old in Scotland, so if the ancestor KNEW he was from a Stewart, there must have been a branch off later than the original name.

We were talking to a fellow in an airport one time who was from Scotland. My husband asked him if he knew how to pronounce the name and spelled E-w-a-r-t. The guy literally rolled that name right off his tongue - sounded really cool. I can't make my tongue do that.
