Dear Alyson,

My Ewalds are from west of Worms on the Rhine in the Palatinate in 1825 0r 1847-48.

According to the flyleaf of my grt-grt-grt-grandfather (b. 1797), Jacob Ewald's bible he was of the Reformed faith. His wife, Brigitta Koerner, converted to the Reformed faith from Roman Catholicism. She was b. in Baden. My grandfather and father always insisted they descended from Prussians and spoke high German.

The reason I suspect they were originally possibly Jewish is that Brigitta, her sons, my grandfather, his brother and my father looked very Semitic.

My Grandfather didn't ever serve pork or eat it, they never worked or cooked on Sundays and walked to church until they were elderly.

Jacob and Brigitta settled in Clark Co., Indiana on the Ohio River near Cincinnati (Hamilton Co., OH.)

Her first husband's name was Bernard Batzler. He died in Germany.
