Hi. Victor Claire Eves was my great-grandfather. Lena Williams Eves was his first wife. No children. She died of typhoid, I believe, though I will have to check my records. Lena's mother I believe was either a Harpster or a Gates--again, I will have to check my records. These are names on my maternal line. Since Victor Claire Eves went on to marry Lulu Thomas, and they became the parents of my paternal grandmother, Bess Eves Ishler, I was going to be related to Victor Eves one way or another.

Victor was born 2Mar1881, and d.at my grandmother's house watching TV in 1966, in Bellefonte. He was the son of John Peter Eves 1854-1932 and Ella N. Biddle 1850-1937. Victor and his 2nd wife, Lulu Thomas Eves 1889-1958, as well as John and Ella Eves, are all buried at Gray's Cemetery in Stormstown.

John Peter Eves was the s/o Joseph Eves 1818-1903 (who came from Cumberland Co PA) and Hannah M. Downing m. 1849, 1829-1886. They are buried at the little Quaker Cemetery on the old Tyrone Pike outside of Centenniel/Stormstown.

My Grandmother Bess Eves was raised first as a Quaker. The family attended the Centre County Friends Meeting near the junction at Centenniel where, if you turn West, the road takes you up and over into Port Matilda. In fact, my great-grandparents Eves lived in the house (still is there) on that corner, across from the Meetinghouse. The Meetinghouse is now a Grange, but has a plaque on the outside wall telling a little of its history as Centre County Meeting.

I only know a little more about my Eves backgroud. I do know quite a bit more about the background of Lena Williams Eves, but not by memory. I could consult my files if you are still needing information about her. Yours, Vicki Ishler Matthews
