I just found my g-grandfather's obituary posted on the Carter County genealogy website. It was a scan of the actual newspaper article. I have transcribed it below:

Obituary - The Portsmouth Times, Portsmouth OH - Feb 23, 1942

"William Jones, 72, retired farmer, died at 12:45 a.m. today at Siloam, where he had lived the last 20 years. Death was attributed to complications following an illness of several months.

Mr Jones was born at Pactolus, Carter County Ky, a son of Daniel Gordon and Martha Womack Jones. Hed had been a member of the Methodist church for 42 years. On Dec. 25, 1894, he married Mollie Everman.

Surviving are his wife and these children: Mrs. Thomas Edwards of College Hill, Ky, Mrs. Paul Hannah of Wheeling, Mrs. Victor Hardin, Ralph Jones of Siloam, Ramond and Seaph Jones at home. He also leaves 13 grandchildren and a great granddaughter."

Knowing the name of my gg-grandparents allowed me to find their marriage record--Oct 10, 1867.

I believe that Martha Womack is the daughter of William Womack and Jacintha Kibbey, and Mollie Everman is the daughter of Samuel Everman and Mary Catherine Hord.

Since my grandmother always talked of being a cousin to Mattie Womack who married
