Your Abel is most likely the son of an Abel Everitt (b. 2 Dec 1723, d. 26 Apr 1760, m. Sarah PALMER) also of Hunterdon Co., NJ; although, I do not know for sure. At least this might be a clue for you to research. This older Able is brother to my ancestor Rachel Everitt and they are children of Samuel Everitt.
