Thomas Clayton married for the second time 28 Jan 1778 in Swede's Church, Philadelphia, PA, according to another family tree I found on ancestry.com. This appears to be the same Thomas Clayton who first married Mary Everingham about 1758 in New Jersey, as the FRiends Monthly Meeting of Burlington NJ show 2 4M 1781 Thomas Clayton condemned, married out of unity (not according to the Quaker discipline). And on 2 4M 1781 thomas Clayton acknowledged that he had driven team conveying military stores and bearing arms in a military way. And on 4 6M 1781 Thomas Clayton granted a certificate of transfer to the Exeter MM.
25 7M Exeter PA Monthly Meeting Received on certificate of transfer by Exeter MM from Burlington MM.
From this, I believe we can safely conclude that Mary Everingham died before Jan 1778, and probably at least a year before that. This means she died in New Jersey, and that Thomas Clayton went on to PA with his new wife and child, William. Thomas and Mary both remained in PA and died in Catawissa, Columbia county. One of their daughters, Ann Clayton married Isaac Webb and they emigrated to the Newmarket area in Ontario, arriving in "the forepart of the 6th month 1806", according to "The Reminisces of Clayton Webb". Another daughter, Content Clayton, married John Borden in New Jersey and their son Joseph emigrated to the same area in Ontario and married his first cousin, Phoebe Webb. I am a direct descendant of this last mentionned marriage.
