The resettlement in question took place in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. My ancestors were among those who moved from Albemarle Co, VA to Mercer Co, PA.This settlement is well documented. I have no indication that a separate settlement existed in Mercer Co, NL.I have additional information.
Dr. Charles Everett was the slave owner in question. He died in 1848.Yes, it was his nephew Dr. Charles Everett who continued his efforts. The youger Dr. Everett is listed as a slaveowner in 1860.
As for the experiemnt failing:It was a resettlement and it did not fail. People moved there, people lived there, some died there, and some moved on.It is reported that the last of those who originally moved there was listed in the 1910 census. According to the info I have.Much the same as any community.
All dates relate to the Mercer County, PA resettlement.
