S/Sgt. William J. Everard was a Radio Gunner with the U.S. Army Air Force, 12th Air Force, 57th Bombardment Wing, 310th Bombardment Group, 428th Bombardment Squadron, aboard B-25 Mitchell Medium Bomber Aircraft, stationed in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations, during WW II. S/Sgt. William J. Everard was shot down TWICE, survived the 1st time, but was killed in the 2nd time. Below is the 1st one: 28 January 1943 428th BS: Extracts from Missing Air Crew Report # ?: (MACR not available) A/C No. 41-13066 (MACR-? - crash landed in enemy territory) P: Thompson, Charles A. “Twitch”, 1Lt - MIA, evaded enemy & returned to 428th on 31 Jan 43 CP: Kelly, Andrew B., 2Lt - MIA, evaded enemy & returned to 428th on 31 Jan 43 N: None B: Queen, Kenneth E., S/Sgt - MIA, evaded enemy & returned to 428th on 31 Jan E: None R: Everard, William J., S/Sgt - MIA, evaded enemy & returned to 428th on 31 Jan G: Glover, Harold, E., S/Sgt - MIA, evaded enemy & returned to 428th on 31 Jan F: None MISSING IN ACTION on 28 January 1943~On Bombing Mission on the Sfax Rail Road marshalling yards, their plane was damaged by fire from an Enemy Fighter Aircraft, a Macchi 200. Returning fire from the B-25's gunner finished off the Macchi 200, and the B-25 made a successful crash landing deep in enemy territory. All five crew members evaded enemy capture and amazingly returned to their squadron, three days later, on 31 January 1943. =============================== I am a Volunteer Researcher with the 57th Bomb Wing Association, which includes the 310th, 319th, 321st, & 340th Bomb Groups, as well as the 12th Bomb Group, stationed in the MTO-Mediterranean Theater of Operations, using B-25 Mitchell Medium Bomber Aircraft, during WW II~1942-1945. They were stationed at various locations in North Africa, Sicily, Corsica, and Italy.
