16th Annual Fort Laurens Moccasin Roast Dinner

If your Revolutionary War ancestor served at Forts Pitt, McIntosh, Crawford, or Henry, he may have helped build, or take supplies to, Fort Laurens/Lawrence in November 1778. This was the only Revolutionary War fort in what is now Ohio. The troops involved were the 13th Virginia Regiment, 8th Pennsylvania Regiment, and militia companies from both states. Sieges by the British and Native Americans forced the trapped Colonial soldiers to boil their moccasins in order to survive the winter. Plans are under way to build a replica of Fort Laurens on the original site in Bolivar, Ohio. (Exit 93 on I-77) There is a museum at the site along with a Tomb of The Unknown Soldier and graves of other soldiers who were killed at Fort Laurens. The Friends of Fort Laurens Foundation (FFLF) is seeking Revolutionary War pension applications and/or any other records in which a veteran mentioned Fort Laurens/Lawrence in any capacity. Attendees at Moccasin Roast dinners are served a gourmet-quality buffet meal, and there is a Silent Auction. Reservations are required. September 24, 2011, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. See web site for details:
