- FGS Conference in Orlando II – The APG Professional Management Conference

On September 3, The Association of Professional Genealogists (APG) is holding its 6th Annual Professional Management Conference (PMC) in conjunction with the FGS Conference. The APG, founded in 1979, is an independent, worldwide organization of professional genealogists whose growing membership has just passed the 1,400 mark. APG’s objectives are to support professional genealogists in all phases of their work, to promote professional standards in genealogical research, writing and speaking and to educate the membership and public through publications and lectures.

The all day Professional Management Conference – “Where Family History Professionals Meet” – has become extremely popular with “professional” genealogists – not only those who work for a fee, but every “serious” genealogist who wants to approach genealogical research in a professional manner. Many attendees at past PMCs report learning more in one day than they have learned in a year on their own.
The lecture program provides a choice from a wide range of topics, presented by some of the best known professional genealogists in the business:
“Word Processing Tricks for Professional Genealogists” by Pamela Boyer Porter, CGRS, CGL
“But I'm Ethical! What Good is the Professional Review Committee to Me?” Elissa Scalise Powell, CGRS
“Conversations with Old Houses: What They Can Tell Us and How to Ask” by Helen F. M. Leary, CG, CGL, FASG
“Genealogy. . . Where's the Money? Making this Career Work for You!” by Louise St. Denis
“Privacy: What It Is, Who It Belongs To, Why It Matters” by Donn Devine, CG, CGI
“APG and Genealogy Education” by Tony Burroughs
“The Discipline of Writing: Teach Yourself to Express Yourself” by Sherry Irvine, CGRS, FSA(Scot)
“Researching On-site for Clients” by James W. Warren
“Branch Out: Expanding Your Business Beyond Client Research” by Paula Stuart Warren, CGRS

In addition to the lectures, the PMC provides a great opportunity to meet and network with other professional genealogists, including a sit-down luncheon which is included in the registration fee. Also included is the chance to win valuable door prizes provided by many well known vendors. The first 50 APG members to register are also eligible for the PMC registration refund drawing at the luncheon.

The registration fee for early registration (before July 15) is $95 for APG members and $120 for non-APG members. After July 15th the fee is $135 for all.

To attend the PMC, registration for the FGS/FSGS Conference (at least for September 3) is also required.
