I have a fun fact for you. Mary Isabella Eveland was not Edward Eveland's biological daughter. He had 8 children with his first wife, Rebecca, took Cordilla Zimmerman (this is the spelling in the 1850 census when she was 8)as a wife when she was already pregnant with Mary, and had 8 more children with Cordilla, whom he called Cotilla. I am related to Mary Isabella. Both my sister and I are wildly curious about the identity of her biological father. All I know is that he was college bound when Cordilla became pregnant. Also, Mary Isabella was very short and far brighter than her siblings. My mother (her granddaughter) told me they were all taller than she by their 10th birthday and Mary Isabella's children always referred to intelligent individuals as being "smart like Mom". The fact that Mary Isabella married into the old German community of West Penn (through her union with Peter Jonathan Shoemaker) suggests that her biological father also came from that community. If you stumble across anything that would help us identify her father, we would be most appreciative.
