Dear Barney,We have been in contact before and yes, we do have it on our record that Samuel was a son of Elijah. We have him married to Elizabeth Sommersall.
The first record of Elijah that I have is his birth and then he is in Monongalia, WV. during the revolution as he donated and is on the claims in Monogalia. The next time he is heard from, he is in Powell's fort leaving his will and wife Susannah and children as named.
Some of our family including the other relatives from Monongalia ( John Evans children from Monogalia ) end up in Floyd County, KY and then Lewis County, Green Up KY and then to Adams County, Ohio and then again to Floyd County.
One of David's (Elijah's son) has John Somersall Evans living next door to him in Adams County, Ohio.Samuel and Elizabeth Evans are buried in Ohio and I don't recall the cemetery's name but a stone has been placed on the grave for them by some of the other family members. That's where our differences start as I think you believe your Samuel is buried in Texas? I remeber something about Texas.
Another child of David's ( son of Elijah)Phillip Evans marries Mary Jane Davis in Lewis County about 1827 and it is in the records. She wasdaughter of Zachariah Davis( his father also named Zachary Davis and left will in Bedford, County VA 1791) and Mary Burgess, daughter of William Burgess and Susannah Garland of Virginia. Wm Burgess left a will, Bedford County, VA 1778.) Garland burgess ( Mary's nephew) moves along with them Floyd County, KY. along with two of Zach's nephew's.)
The problem is that someone has compiled a list of names that are different than yours for the children of Samuel Evans. Also, I think that Samuel is listed for a while in Adams,County Ohio and his death is given there. He is listed with wife Elizabeth. It is very possible that your Samuel is indeed our Samuel. The problem with that is there were two Samuels's listed in Shenandoah records. However, I still think of John Somersall Evans in Adams County, Ohiolivng next to David Evans.
I read that somewhere thinks that Samuel Hiram is the son of Samuel and if they look at the time frame, that is impossible.
The interesting thing is that some of Samuel Hiram's relatives end up in Reynolds county, MO and then on to St. Louis.
My grand mother Nettie Ann Evans comes with her family, (descended from Edward, Elijah, David Evans, Phillip Evans, James Harvey Evans) to the same area of Reynolds County, MO.
If you come to any further conclusions, please let me know. One of your relatives was going to scan a picture of the three brothers in St. Louis for me.I would be delighted to see them.
Regards, Marie
