the 1920 census he was born in Georgia, maybe in Gilmer County, maybe in Atlanta in 1872. His father was Bryant Evans, who is from South Carolina I think and married who Amanda Welchel (or Wilkie). John Calvin eventually made his way to Texas, marrying Eva Regina (maybe Eve Belle) Knox (from Louisiana) in 1899. If anyone has information relating to these Evans’ in Georgia or South Carolina, I would be interested in knowing more about these people.
