Kate Galbreath Eustis Texas Obit
07/24/2003) Kate Galbreath Eustis, of New Orleans, died peacefully at home on Thursday, July 17. She was 88. Mrs. Eustis was born in Memphis, TN where she graduated from St. Mary's Episcopal School and Rhodes College. She also received a Master of Arts in English at Louisiana State University. In 1938 she married her childhood sweetheart, Laurance Eustis, who preceded her in death. Their 65 year marriage was a romance of mutual adoration and respect; they were happy and lucky and they knew it. Mrs. Eustis was a member of Christ Church Cathedral, where she co-founded the Cathedral Cooking School and the tutorial program for neighborhood children. She was also an adult tutor for the YMCA's Operation Mainstream. She was the first president of the Longue Vue House Gardens and past president of the Quarante Club and the New Orleans Town Gardeners. She lived a charmed life acquiring great knowledge of literature, music, and gardening. She also had a keen understanding of people and events. Survivors include two sons, Laurance Eustis III and wife, Karin and Robert French Eustis and wife, Karen, all of New Orleans; a daughter, Kate Eustis Clark and husband, Dr. Stephen Clark of Austin, TX; a sister, Anne Galbreath Wasson of Greenville, MS: and four grandchildren, James Giger Eustis and Laurance Brittin Eustis of New Orleans; Colin Eustis Clark of Austin and Chandler Kate Clark of Minneapolis. The family thanks her caregivers, especially Linda Cratchan, Ora Prater, and Hortensia Marroquin for their kind and loving care over the past few years.
