Joseph Eubank/Eubanks of SC b. abt 1800
Does anyone here know anything about a Joseph Eubanks born about 1800 in SC? He is my ggggrandfather father of my gggrandfather Francis A.(Asbury) Eubanks b. 1835 MS. Here is what I've found in the census on him and most of this info has been verified in our "Eubanks" family bible.
1850 Carroll County, Mississippi Federal Census
Southern Division
2 Sep 1850
Written page 196
Printed page 390
Dwelling # 29
Family # 36
EUBANK, Joseph, age 50, farmer, b/ SC
Harriett H., age 41, b/ SC
James, age 19, merchant clerk, b/ MS
William J., age 17, student, b/ MS
Francis A., age 15, b/ MS
Abigail G., age 11, b/ MS
Harriet E., age 7, b/ MS
Sarah J., age 6, b/ MS
Samuel B., age 2, b/ MS
DUTART, Elizabeth, age 66, b/ SC
WOODELL, William, age 20, bacher (?)
From this I gather that Elizabeth Dutart is Joseph's Mother-in-law(my gggggrandmother!)
Other names mentioned in our bible are "Merritt" "Odom" and "Weatherby" Here is a clip from the same census for Rev. Harvey M. Merritt my ggggrandfather:
1850 Carroll County, Mississippi Federal Census
Southern Division
2 Sep 1850
Written page 198
Printed page 394
Dwelling # 46
Family # 56
MERRITT, Harvey M., age 38, bricklayer, b/ TN (?)
Mary A., age 27, b/ NC
Thomas, age 8, b/ MS
Narcissa, age 6, b/ MS
HESTER, Helen, age 35, b/ NC
DARBY, McDonald, age 22, student, b/ UNKN
TOWNSEND, Louisa, age 17, b/ NC
It lists Harvey M. Merritt as a Bricklayer when my Aunt and his tomestone(in Durant(Muzpah) cemetary) say he was a reverend.
Narcissa Jane Merritt married my gggrandfather, Francis A. Eubanks who was also the Sherriff of Durant, Holmes Co. MS after the Civil War. The marriage took place in December of 1865. I don't have copies of the bible pages with me right now, my father is supposed to get me some, but a couple of Francis and Narcissa's children that I can recall are Thomas Bicknell(my ggrandfather), Henrietta Holley, and Frank Lee. I know there were more just can't recall. Narcissa(d.1922) is buried in Durant(Muzpah)cemetary and there is a tombestone marked only "Eubanks" that I suspect is Francis(d. 1885) because this is the cemetary my ggrandfather, my grandfather and my dad all went to to search for his grave many years ago but were unable to find it. If anybody has any information they'd like to share I'd be glad to share any information I have. Thanks!
Valerie Anne Eubanks
