You may want to send to National Archives for a copy of papers from the pension file for minor children MC81362 based on James Etherton's military service in Co. K48th IL Vol Inf. Among the pages I received many years ago the following info was given:
James Etherton was born Greene Co., TN.From his age at time of enlistment, it is figured that he was born about 1825.His marriage date to Armelda Dockens was listed as 28 June, 1855 Clay Co., IL.James died on 8 July, 1864 at Regimental Hospital, Marietta, GA.
Surviving children:
Sarahb. 4 July 1849
Sophronia E. b. 12 April 1857
William C.b. 22 March 1860
James Etherton was a resident of Hoosier Township, Louisville (town?), Clay Co., IL when he enlisted.
I would be interested to know more about this James Etherton as well since my own Etherton line can be traced back to Greene Co., TN.
